Seasonal Resilience – Mindfulness Skills for Winter Well-Being
As days grow shorter and colder, many people begin to notice signs of the“winter blues.” This may include low mood,
decreased energy, irritability, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, cravings for carbohydrates and weight gain, or
withdrawal from social activities. Some people develop a more serious condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder
(SAD), which requires medical treatment.
HOW CAN MINDFULNESS HELP?
Mindfulness practice can improve awareness of the present-moment experience (including thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and environmental factors). Mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques can improve coping, help manage stress, and promote greater self-kindness and self-compassion.
